Kohden Japanese Star Anise offers a sweet and delicate perfume with a Star Anise note. This is renowned for its anise (aniseed) flavour/aroma - similar to both Fennel and Liquorice. Star Anise is obtained from the fleshy part of a fruit (Illicium Verum), native to the northeast of Vietnam and southwest China. In addition, the blend is enhanced with elements of Jujube Tree (Chinese Date) and Apricot Kernel. These all add to and support the sweet nature of the aroma this incense produces.
Kohden is Japanese for 'To convey fragrance' and reflects a heritage of Japanese incense that has been influenced by contact with other regions of the world. Over the centuries, incense ingredients and arabesque patterns came to Japan through the Silk Road from the Middle East. Kohden is packaged in herbal motif arabesque boxes to show respect for the ancient people who carried the incense into Japan. Further, the sticks are wrapped in Japanese paper and a stick holder/burner is included too.
